Sick boy at 1 month

Baby Vernon has grown from 49cm at birth to a length of 53cm in 1 month. He also has grown from 2.94kg to weigh 4.13kg now. Yippe Hooray! Yippe Hooray! Yippe Horray!

But sad to say, i knew all those not through routine checkup but during a sickly visit to the PD during the CNY period. Vernon has alot of pleghm in his throat and has difficulty breathing in the sleep... not sure whether it is due to the last cold infection 2 weeks ago or it is a new episode.

We went to the outpatient GP on CNY eve 11.45pm to get some medicine to relieve him. However, things doesn't really improve; the pleghm is very disturbing and he has to cough to feel better. However, being baby, he doesn't know how to cough out properly and he throws out everything after some of his feed.

So went to see the PD on CNY 3rd day - 20feb2007 (exactly his one month old), he says that the pleghm has gone to his lungs and he is diagosed with Bronchitis and he needs a neubilization treatment to have him recover. We have a choice on renting the machine to do it at home or to be warded in hospital and he will recover faster.

Being Kan Chiong parent, we chose to be warded in hospital. So sad, he being warded to hospital on CNY and at his 1 month. However, being warded for 2 days, his condition stables and can be discharged to recover at home. He is recovering well now...

Kind of upset that my baby was sick twice over a period of 1 month. Hope my little boy build up his health and immunity and be a strong little boy.

3 weeks old.....

Baby changes everyday. I can see that my baby vernon seems to be growing in size. But of course, he is like feeding non-stop. haha. i am getting abit exagerrating. However, i felt that he seems to be eating more than the average baby. Maybe I am wrong. He feeds about 100ml of milk every 3 hours. Sometimes, only 2 hours has past and he cried to the cows come home....

Also, now he seems to sleep less in the day but he still wakes up in the night for milk every 3 hours. Last night is the best night, where he wakes up every 4 hours plus for milk... that is fanastic and hope that is not an one -off, but a start to such nights.

He also seems want to be carried to sleep, all thanks to my mother in law and sometimes andy for liking to carry him to sleep... or carry him whenever he cries.... i have been warned by many parents not to carry them too much, if not, the situation will get worse and imagine carry a 9 month or 1 year old to sleep... the weight can torture you. But there is nothing i can do, my kid has already been conditioned. I just have to resigned to my fate. maybe my arms will be more sturdy after a year. :p

Oh my favourite activity doing for my kid is to dig his nose... hahah.. he seems to have quite a bit of "pi sai" in his nose every other day. And i dig it for him. But i am gentle and will not damage his small nostril.....

Sick Vernon

Sigh, my baby Vernon has been down with nose infection (cold) and skin infection (rashes). He is not his usual self during sleep time - more unsettled and seems to have difficulty breathing. Making noises and crying periodically. Intially, I am still grumbling that he has become naughty, but i guess i have blamed him wrongly. He is sick.

He has to take many doses of different medicine. Drops into his tiny mouth and drops into his small nose nostril. It pains his daddy alot whenever he cries in discomfort having the nose drops. We have to coax him for at least half an hour for the medicine to settle in. I think next time i will be the mummy that carries the whip, while daddy is the one that defends/shields him.

This smart boy also knows how to spit out the antibiotics drop that we put into his mouth using the syringe. Every single drop. We have to continue to do this for the next 7 days. Hope he really recovers well.

Come to think of it, he is sick only after 2 weeks. Baby is so vulnerable and we really have to take good care of him.

2nd week

Come to think about it, these 2 weeks have been a roller-coaster ride for me in terms of emotion. I can be happy, sad, stress, relax, sian, at any one point during the day. I get more emotional as well - probably due to the pregnancy hormones.

For the initial few days of the 2nd week, Vernon is able to just keep quiet at night if he is awake. If he is not, he will just be awake and cry when it is feeding time or his nappy is wet (hardly). Thus, it has been easier coping him during the night. Felt happy and relax that everything is in routine and in control.

I still remember the overwhelming happiness i felt when i first saw him when i woke up this morning. the feeling is really first time of these 2 weeks.. :p

However, these 2 days, he is crying at odd interval (meaning not the usual 3 hours feeding time), making us really stress and frustrated guessing over what he wants. He seems to want more milk - but he doesn't want to sulkle the real thing at times.. making me feeling perplexed. Does he just want breastmilk in bottle - as i have conveniently pumped out most of the time? or i m not producing enough.. too many if.....

Of course, the emotions ride is also driven by many other factors... I can't wait for the first month to be over.... hope things will be better....
